Coronavirus in India: Mumbai’s E ward becomes a concern with 83 Covid-19 cases

Mumbai’s E ward consisting of areas like Byculla and Mumbai Central has emerged as a hotbed of Covid-19 patients after Worli. Till Tuesday, the E ward, which has reported 83 positive cases, reported 35 coronavirus cases on Tuesday itself.

“Thirteen cases are from the earlier cases reported in two chawls of Byculla. There are 229 people who are under quarantine in the E ward. Efforts are being made to contain the spread,” Rais Shaikh, MLA Bhiwandi and Corporator Byculla, said.

Earlier, 52 staffers from Wockhardt hospital who were tested positive also came under the E ward. Other clusters of cases were found in Morland road where 10 from a family have tested positive. In that case, it is suspected that the 63- year old man may have contracted the virus from his son who works in a bank.

Meanwhile, more cases were reported from Worli Koliwada. A total of 116 people tested positive in Mumbai on Tuesday.
