Independent Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Meham in Haryana, Balraj Kundu has threatened to withdraw his support to Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar’s government in the state. Kundu extended his support to the BJP-JJP alliance that staked claim to form a government in the state in October of last year.
Addressing media persons in the state capital on Thursday, Kundu said that he had extended his support to an honest government and CM ML Khattar. “Now, I have realised that their display of honesty is a farce,” said the MLA from Meham. Balraj Kundu also said that he will hand over a letter to Haryana Assembly Speaker Gian Chand Gupta on Friday, informing the assembly about his decision to withdraw his support.
Less than 40 minutes after Kundu’s interaction with media outlets, Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar responded to the MLA’s statement. “We will speak to him. We are open to order a probe if there is credible primary evidence to believe his allegations,” said the chief minister. Khattar however, claimed “there is no evidence and no point in ordering any inquiry” based on the Meham MLA’s allegations.
Balraj Kundu first extended his support to the BJP-JJP coalition government last October after Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar made a comeback with 40 seats in the 90-seat Assembly with help from the JJP that managed to secure 10 seats. A ‘helicopter’ as his election symbol, Kundu secured 49,418 votes which accounted for 35.39 per cent of the electorate in Meham.
