LOGO ka kaam hai kehna: Virat Kohli on RCB’s new logo for IPL 2020

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Friday unveiled a new logo after sending fans into a frenzy with what turned out to be a series of promotional stunts on social media.

Ahead of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020, RCB created a buzz on social media when they took down their Instagram posts and profile and cover photos from their social media handles, including Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

Several of their players, including captain Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, added fuel to fire by questioning what was going on with RCB’s social media accounts. Kohli even said he was not informed about what was going on with RCB’s social media handles and wondered if all was well with the franchise.

However, on Friday, RCB revealed their new logo which features a lion. The franchise said it “embodies the bold and fearless attitude” of the 3-time finalists.

Reacting to the new logo, captain Virat Kohli took to social media and came up with a witty tweet while shedding more light on what it means to the franchise and its fans.

“LOGO ka kaam hai kehna. Thrilled to see our new @rcbtweets logo. It embodies the Bold pride and challenger spirit that our players bring to the field. Can’t wait for #IPL2020 #NewDecadeNewRCB,” Virat Kohli wrote after sharing the new logo of RCB on Twitter.

Speaking on the launch of the new visual identity, Sanjeev Churiwala, Chairman of Royal Challengers Bangalore, said: “The elements in the logo is a commitment to continuously entertain and engage with fans who are the force behind Royal Challengers Bangalore.

“We believe a change in identity for the club was necessary to effectively live and breathe this vision and celebrate the passion for cricket and playing bold.”

Even as RCB have been building up to the launch of the new logo, a section of cricket fans took to social media to troll the promotional strategies.

RCB, who have reached the final of IPL 3 times, are yet to win a trophy. In 2016, Virat Kohli led them single-handedly to the final but the Bengaluru-based franchise has been struggling since. RCB finished 8th in 2017, 6th in 2018 and finished with the wooden spoon again last season.
